Airservices fire fighters have taken part in a multi-agency training exercise on Brisbane’s new runway to test the response to a simulated aircraft crash landing.

Around 30 personnel from Airservices, Brisbane Airport Corporation, Australian Federal Police, Queensland Police, Queensland Ambulance, and Queensland Fire and Rescue Service took part in the event.

Airservices Aviation Rescue Firefighters dispatched two crews to the simulated crash scene, on the northern end of the new runway, just after 10am where they secured the scene and assessed the situation.

ARFFS Brisbane Superintendent Wayne Morrison established the Forward Command Post supported by Inspector Matt Pini, taking control of the scene until the arrival of Queensland Police.

The exercise was the first for the new infrastructure which is scheduled to open in July and while the event was considered a success there were some lessons learned, which were noted and appreciated by all in attendance.

Brisbane’s new Fire Station is expected to be in a state of operational readiness by the first week in July.
